July 30 2024, Quito – BanEcuador B.P. has become an official signatory of the UN Principles for Responsible Banking and a member of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI). This makes it part of a unique framework for a sustainable banking sector, developed by UNEP FI alongside the banking community.
The Principles are the fundamental framework for ensuring that banks’ strategy and practices are aligned with the vision society has set out for its future in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Paris Climate Agreement, and other relevant global and regional agreements. Banks that sign up to the Principles commit to be ambitious in their sustainability strategies and work to embed and integrate them at the heart of their business. This commitment allows them not only to remain at the forefront of sustainable finance, but also to be part of the largest global banking community dedicated to this purpose, facilitating the sharing of best practices and working together on groundbreaking guidelines and tools that will benefit the whole sector.
This membership confirms BanEcuador B.P.’s commitment to sustainability and financial responsibility. The Principles for Responsible Banking help signatories to understand the risks and to take advantage of the opportunities that arise from the transition to responsible banking.
“Being one of the Ecuadorian banks that is part of the financial institutions that make up this community is an incentive for us. It encourages us to make decisions that have a positive impact on inclusive development based on green finance, following sustainability criteria in the financial, social and environmental fields“, said Francisco Miño Ron, Chairman of the Board of BanEcuador.
BanEcuador B.P. is proud to be a signatory of the Principles for Responsible Banking and reaffirms its commitment to promoting responsible financial practices that benefit society and the environment.
